"Is divine love just an old myth?"

Les Amours Des Dieux

LES AMOURS DES DIEUX

The captivating theme of the love of the gods has inspired timeless works of art. The legendary union between Eros and Psyche has been immortalized in sculptures and frescoes, symbolizing the unique alliance between divine and human love.

In Greek mythology, the amorous escapades of Jupiter with the beautiful Io, and the sad story of Artemis and Orion, hunting together before their tragic fate, were recurring subjects for artists. Hades’ abduction of Persephone, leading to his subterranean reign, was also depicted in powerful works. These artistic representations span the ages, capturing the eternal complexity of divine love and immortalizing mythological tales of passion, betrayal and destiny.

Mathilde Oscar reinterprets these age-old themes in a series of mixed-media self-portraits.

"The versatility of women challenging aged concepts"

A Few Words About Hors Du Temps

Hors Du Temps

In this collection, we encounter a diverse array of female archetypes—femme fatales, girly girls, tomboys, geeks, and warriors—all of whom exude strength and confidence, firmly rooted in the modern era. But what if these contemporary women were to journey back in time to the Renaissance?

The result? A stunning visual shock that defies expectation. “Hors Du Temps” explores the juxtaposition of shifted appearances and societal norms, seamlessly blending elements of the baroque with contemporary aesthetics. Through skillful artistry and imaginative storytelling, the collection takes viewers on a feminist journey through time—a deliciously anachronistic exploration of identity, empowerment, and self-expression.

Each photograph in “Hors Du Temps” serves as a window into an alternate reality, where women of today navigate the complexities of Renaissance society with grace and defiance. From elegant courtiers to fierce warriors, these women embrace their multifaceted personalities, challenging historical conventions and redefining what it means to be a woman “out of time.”

Through a careful blend of costume, set design, and photography techniques, “Hors du temps” not only celebrates the resilience and agency of women throughout history but also prompts viewers to reflect on the fluidity of identity and the enduring quest for self-discovery. Join us on this extraordinary journey through the ages, where the past meets the present in a breathtaking display of creativity and empowerment.

"Dream of elsewhere"

A Few Words About Wanderlust

Wanderlust

An adventurer, but only in my thoughts, my imaginary journeys are set down on paper through staged faces that are nothing more than the representation of my dream of “elsewhere”. I then become these women from all over the world for the duration of a shoot.

Wanderlust brings together 3 series on an ethnic theme, somewhere between dream and travel, and puts the spotlight quite simply on women.

The portrait is a recurring theme in my photography, telling a story in itself through the look and the setting that surrounds it. My creativity translates into embodying all the roles, from designing sets and props to creating costumes. My photographs incorporate contemporary codes of fashion and beauty, while introducing artistic references to classicism.

“I hear the sirens calling me… My ears, brushed by a warm wind, are soothed when my eyes see sweet Amazons proud and haughty in the distance, their eyes plunged into mine. When the singing mingles with the tom-tom, the journey has begun and goddesses with the allure of frightened odalisques stand before me. I can feel the trance rising and divine faces haunting me. I embark on a journey of exotic ramblings, multiple hallucinations of ethnic beauty. I become the strong, proud women who make my world an ephemeral odyssey.

"A fresh take on the classics"

A Few Words About Pop Classicisme

pop CLASSICISME

A collection that merges various themes, revisiting the masters or simply inspired by classical painting. From Ingres’ odalisque in its various guises to the inspirations of Vermeer, Botticelli, Bernini, Canova and many other references from the history of art… a reinterpretation of mythology and the nude of yesterday and today, between offbeat humor and the simple representation of beauty. No particular message here, but rather an invitation to the pleasure of the eye and the sweet familiarity of universally-known masterpieces. A different perspective that speaks to everyone, offering a fresh vision of works appreciated by all.

"Prophets rewritten"

A Few Words About Pop Iconic

pop ICONIC

A vibrant series in pop and acid hues softens the gravity of religious icons. Conventions are turned on their head and provocation is the order of the day. Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi is guided by his addictions, even accompanied by his female counterparts. Jesus establishes himself as the new prophet of Miami, exposing his body and spreading the good word in the 2.0 era. “Pop Iconic” presents itself as a mini-series exploring new dogmas, new “prophets” or contemporary or contemporary role models of our time.

"The fragile balance of humanity"

A Few Words About Les Mondes Insensés

LES MONDES INSENSÉS

This collection reveals the paradoxes and pretenses inherent in the failings of our society. Like a story opening onto our subconscious, it is woven with enigmatic symbols. Each chapter, baptized with oxymorons, intensifies the paradoxical character, accentuated by anachronistic visual staging, creating a striking discrepancy.

Nonsensical worlds reveal hidden behaviors, unacknowledged aspects, our dark side and our decline. From “erotic purity” to “immodest religion”, from “unhealthy innocence” to “ugly beauty”, to the disturbing notion of “human meat” – all antagonisms that humanity exploits until its last resources are exhausted.

Insane? The very essence of human equilibrium lies in these contradictions.

the very essence of our nature. It’s in this fragile balance that the complex fabric of our humanity takes shape between light and shadow, paradox and reality.

"Merging with the elements"

A Few Words About Métamorphoses

MÉTAMORPHOSES

Embracing its own devastating folly, mankind has soiled its land, altered its habitat, and tarnished its essence. Enclosed, confined in its own morass, it desperately seeks a way to free itself. In this story, tomorrow’s superheroes will emerge from those with the courage to metamorphose.

In the midst of its own stubbornness and loneliness, mankind will recognize its mistakes and begin a transformation. Like a fountain of youth, nature will regenerate its entire being, and in its cocoon, his soul will extract the essence of all things. It will melt into the matrix, and out of its chrysalis, it will be reborn in its true element.

Through this series, Mathilde Oscar delivers a message of harmony with nature. Four elements (represented by 4 names of associated goddesses) symbolize this allegorical vision where land and sea are in turn polluted, fires devastate flora and fauna, and the air becomes toxic, making it impossible to breathe.

In this dystopian world, humanity finds itself isolated in a cage, a poignant symbol of its confinement and individuality. As for the mask, it embodies the hero in all of us, ready to metamorphose and merge with our intrinsic nature.

The call is clear: change the world and become the fifth element, the one who transcends the limits imposed by isolation. Only sharing and empathy can break the cage of individualism, restoring a lost harmony with our environment and our own essence.

"Intertwining with nature"

A Few Words About Dystopia

DYSTOPIA

Dystopia celebrates nature and its insects, while shedding light on their fate on our planet. In an era where bees are disappearing under the weight of human actions, how long will humanity prevail? Insects are more numerous and organized, with a total biomass 300 times greater than that of humans. Yet their small size is a source of great fear.

What if harmonious coexistence was possible? Or, on the contrary, insects could take over humanity? Mathilde Oscar explores these scenarios in “Dystopia”, depicting a rococo-tinged post-apocalyptic future through images where beauty and repugnance intertwine. As we look deeper, beauty reveals its ephemeral side, marred by marks and imperfections.

This astonishing mix provokes a paradoxical feeling in viewers: admiration or disturbance? Perhaps these performances will enable entomophobia to reconcile themselves with their fears. These images deceive us as to their nature, for they are not paintings but photographs in which the figures are made of flesh and blood. A human queen confronted with other queens, these images invite you to question the boundary between beauty and ugliness, fiction and reality.
