cORpuS

The photographic series cORpuS, created by self-taught French artist Louis Blanc, is a captivating journey into the realm of human body representation. Emerging in 2011, after a series of experiments and deep personal reflections enhanced by Blanc's transition to professional reflex equipment, cORpuS stands out for its ability to capture the complexity, beauty, and sometimes strangeness of the human form.

Each photograph in cORpuS results from a unique creative process that often starts with a vague idea, evolving through trial and error until it reaches an expression form that defies conventions. Blanc uses self-portraiture techniques to stage his body in contortions that push the boundaries of bodily expression, utilizing a timer and remote control to capture these intense moments of solitude and self-discovery.

The neutral background of the images highlights the main subject: the body itself, distorted, stretched, sometimes placed in disturbing poses, but always captivating. It's an exploration of the human form that invites reflection on the human condition, on the fragility, strength, beauty, and anxiety that can be expressed through the body's language alone.

Since its inception, cORpuS has garnered significant interest and has been showcased in over 40 international exhibitions, from France to Japan, through New York, Italy, and Russia. This series has not only been critically acclaimed in publications such as La Provence and Réponses Photo but has also been recognized in international media, including Monaco Culture and the Tribune de Genève.

Through cORpuS, Louis Blanc does not merely capture images; he provokes a dialogue with the viewer, a dialogue where the contours of the body speak of deep emotions, untold stories, and beauty in imperfection. This series is a testament to Blanc's artistic vision, a vision that continues to evolve and captivate a global audience.

Louis Blanc

Louis Blanc

Louis Blanc, born in 1956 and residing in Toulouse for over a decade, is a self-taught French photographer whose artistic journey demonstrates an unending quest for expression and innovation. Blanc delved into the world of photography without formal training, relying on his passion and intuition to master the art of capturing fleeting moments through the lens.

From the 1980s, he experimented with various equipment, from a Minolta to a digital compact, before ultimately adopting a DSLR in 2010. This transition marked a turning point in his career, allowing him to fully dedicate himself to his preferred subjects. In 2011, Blanc launched his iconic project CORpuS, a series of photographs exploring the complexity and expressive potential of the human body. Inspired by triumph in a photography contest, Blanc found in CORpuS a means to probe the depths of human emotion and thought through visceral representations of the body.
