This artwork illustrates “The Deluge” which is a monumental photographic work by Gérard Rancinan, unveiled at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Chartres from June 22 to July 14, 2024. Measuring 4.6 meters wide by 2.35 meters high, this photograph depicts an imaginary megacity submerged, symbolizing contemporary challenges related to climate change. For its creation, Rancinan orchestrated a complex staging involving thirty models and a team of sixty people, including makeup artists and set designers. This work is accompanied by six giant books designed by Caroline Gaudriault, tracing the cultural evolution of the myth of the Deluge throughout history. Together, they invite viewers to engage in a profound reflection on current environmental issues and the need for societal renewal.
