The Barkley is a unique, strange, and fascinating race. This hellish challenge is often described as impossible, having been completed by only 18 runners, about 1% of the participants. In March 2018, in Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee, Alexis Berg witnessed this extreme event.
He describes a runner lost in the morning mist, climbing the slope of Rat Jaw, the longest ascent of the Barkley. The mystical landscape and the difficulty of the race captivate Alexis, making this legendary race even more intriguing and formidable.
During the winter of 1996, Gérard Rancinan created a series of portraits for Paris Match, highlighting the future stars of the Atlanta Olympic Games. Among these portraits, that of Haile Gebrselassie stands out. Rancinan traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to capture the champion up close.
Accompanied by a local , Gérard Rancinan managed to navigate the city and communicate for his scouting. At that time, Haile Gebrselassie was already a double world champion in the 10,000 meters and the favorite for the Atlanta Games. He confirmed his status by becoming an Olympic champion that year and doubled his success in Sydney in 2000.
A few months before the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, L'Équipe magazine entrusted Gérard Rancinan with creating a series of portraits of the national team players. Intended to be published on the morning of the opening match, this extensive portfolio highlights twelve of the most emblematic players.

However, capturing a powerful image in this setting required finding the right place and the right moment, which proved to be more complex than expected. After several days of scouting, Jean-Baptiste and his team finally positioned themselves at the foot of a ridge at dawn. Thanks to a combination of luck and anticipation, they captured the perfect moment: the wind blowing in the right direction, the sky painted in pastel colors, the hot air balloons aligning, and Kilian jumping over a rock, resulting in a breathtaking image.
